The well-known Caminito del Rey is a path built into the walls of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes. It starts in the municipality of Ardales, crosses the municipality of Antequera and ends in El Chorro (Álora). Altogether it is an aerial route of 3 kilometers, 100 meters above the river. It was built a century ago by the Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Chorro, owners of Salto del Gaitanejo and Salto del Chorro, as they needed its operators to access these waterfalls. The name Caminito del Rey is due to the fact that it was inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII.
